Successful treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can improve all aspects of a person’s life. CPAP therapy is the most common treatment and does not involve drugs or surgery. Patients can experience improvement in their sleep within the first few nights of therapy.

Sleep apnea treatment options

CPAP (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) is the most common therapy for obstructive sleep apnea and is regarded as the ‘gold standard’ therapy because of its effectiveness whether OSA is mild or severe..

VitalAire offers a range of CPAP devices from ResMed, Philips Respironics and Fisher & Paykel, and customized  customer service programs to maximise patient compliance, particularly in the first few weeks and months of therapy where compliance is critical for effective CPAP habits.

CPAP therapy

CPAP therapy uses a flow generator to pump air to a patient’s airway, splinting the throat to create a clear path to the lungs.

The air flows through a  specially designed tube connected to a mask worn by the patient throughout the night.

Patients often report how CPAP therapy improves their quality of life dramatically and rapidly. Being able to breathe properly at night improves their sleep quality and reduces or stops snoring – leaving patients and their partners feeling well-rested and refreshed in the morning.

CPAP therapy is designed exclusively for use during sleep and manufacturers go to great lengths to make the masks and other products as comfortable as possible.

CPAP therapy is a treatment, not a cure, for OSA. To be optimally beneficial, CPAP must be used every time your patient is sleeping, which requires ongoing coaching and support. VitalIAre’s unique approach through the Sleep Health Commitment is designed to help your patients achieve success.

We are your patient care partner

VitalAire has been a trusted Canadian partner in sleep apnea treatment for over 35 years, since the inception of CPAP therapy.

We have earned this position by working closely with the prescribing healthcare providers. We follow your prescription, provide feedback on therapy performance and compliance, and refer patients back to you – or confer with you, if the therapy needs adjustment.

Other treatment options

The biggest challenge to successful CPAP therapy is compliance with treatment. Patients can be uncomfortable or embarrassed using the device, especially early on, before they have felt the full benefits of therapy. This reluctance can lead to inconsistent use, or abandonment of the therapy.

VitalAire’s Sleep Health Commitment program is designed to target all the critical points in your patient’s therapy, and provide the support to ensure successful treatment.

Studies demonstrate that education about sleep apnea, follow-up, a comfortable mask fit, effective therapy monitoring and regular communication with a professional all improve treatment success. These are all part of our Sleep Health Commitment.
