Your CPAP mask can often be the difference between great and poor sleep. It is so important for your mask to be well-fitted and comfortable, to meet your needs and treat your sleep apnea.

Choosing a mask that’s right for you out of so many different masks and manufacturers can make the choice both confusing and overwhelming. To help you out, our team of clinical experts has researched the top masks to look out for.

Which CPAP mask is most comfortable?

Since their invention in the 1980s, CPAP masks have become significantly more lightweight, personalized and comfortable. Notably, the recent innovation of a more moulded design that keeps a better seal and is held in place by flexible lightweight headgear has been a game changer. Using CPAP has never been as easy or as comfortable as it is today.

VitalAire helps thousands of CPAP users find the right equipment. Call us to find out how our clinical experts can help you find the best mask fit.

ResMed AirFit N20 Nasal mask

AirFit N20. Best CPAP masks to look out for in 2019 | SleepTalk

Mask Features

Mask Seal and Cushion: The ResMed AirFit N20 is an adaptive CPAP nasal pillows mask with innovative InfinitySeal cushion that provides a secure seal during therapy.

The flexible headgear and the silicone InfinitySeal cushion let the mask follow your movements while you sleep with a gentle seal that, according to ResMed, reduces red marks, irritations and creases. The front of the mask features smooth and comfortable padding which adds to the comfort you feel during sleep.

Headgear and Overall Shape: According to ResMed, the Airfit N20 fits 99.4% of faces around the world, making it extremely comfortable for nose-breathers who want a simple, non-obtrusive design with a clear line of vision. The mask’s flexible frame follows the natural curves of your facial features and its headgear’s ultra-soft plush material has integrated padding for added comfort.

AirFit N20 is fitted with magnetic clips for quick-release, as well as a quick release elbow that lets you disconnect the mask from the tubing system without having to actually remove the mask from your head if you need to get up at night.

Ability to Diffuse: AirFit N20 has an air draft that is on the stronger side. While some of our clients love all the innovative comfort features of the mask, others note that the lack of advanced diffusion may be felt by the bed partner.

Smaller sizes available: ResMed also offers the AirFit N20 for Her, a smaller lavender coloured mask with slightly more slender features and sizes.

Is the AirFit N20 CPAP mask compatible with all CPAP machines?

The ResMed AirFit N20 nasal mask works with all CPAP and Bi-Level CPAP machines. It is also compatible with the ResMed AirMini Travel CPAP.

Philips Respironics DreamWear Under Nose Nasal Mask

Respironics DreamWear Under Nose Mask, best CPAP masks of 2019. SleepTalk

Mask Features

Mask Seal and Cushion: The DreamWear Under Nose nasal mask is designed as a minimal contact mask, which means it only touches the skin where it absolutely has to. Its cushions provide an ideal, comfortable and soft fit without having to insert anything into your nostrils; the under nose nasal mask cushions sit comfortably and securely at the base of the nostrils for a comfortable CPAP therapy experience. DreamWear’s innovative design helps to prevent red marks, discomfort, or irritation in and around the nostrils.

Headgear and Overall Shape: The DreamWear under nose nasal mask has a tube-like headgear that delivers the air directly to the nasal cushion.

With this style, your mask elbow sits on top of your head and away from your face and field of vision, providing you with greater freedom of movement while you sleep and prevents you from getting tangled up in your hose and accidentally removing your mask as a result. The breakthrough top of the head design allows you to sleep in any position, even on your stomach.

The hose elbow is free to swivel inside the connection so you don’t have to fear your movement while you sleep. If one side of the DreamWear frame gets closed from you lying on it, air can still flow to the other side without negatively affecting your CPAP pressure.

Ability to Diffuse: The diffuser sitting atop your head is designed to reduce the air flow available to blow into your eyes or at your bed partner.

Is the DreamWear Under Nose nasal mask compatible with all CPAP machines?

The Philips Respironics DreamWear Under Nose mask works with all CPAP, APAP and Bi-Level CPAP machines, but is incompatible with the ResMed AirMini Travel CPAP, which has its own set of compatible masks.

It’s extremely comfortable and has a highly efficient design, which provides a feeling of security and high performance during therapy. The cushion is soft and comfortable, yet provides a highly secure fit and seal.

Headgear and Overall Shape: Made especially for mouth breathers, the simple yet effective AirFit F30 offers a good seal for CPAP users who are side sleepers and use a full face mask.

ResMed’s Airfit F30 features a one-size headgear with magnetic clips for easier wear and removal of the mask without having to readjust your velcro straps each time. It sits lower on the face for a clear line of vision and fit 93% of CPAP users in a 75-patient study conducted by ResMed.

Ability to Diffuse: The QuietAir elbow technology gently and quietly diffuses exhaled air from your mask to create a more restful atmosphere with fewer noticeable drafts. According to ResMed, it is one of the quietest CPAP masks on the market.

The headgear is easily adjustable with the help of Velcro straps. The tubing is short and slim and it extends from the mask frame having a swivel right at the bottom.

Fisher & Paykel Eson™ 2 Nasal Mask

F&P Eson 2 CPAP mask

Mask Features

Mask seal and cushion: The Eson 2 has been a long-time favourite nasal mask among CPAP users and our clients. Its features a unique RollFit seal technology which is designed to auto-adjust to the structure of your natural nose bridge structure. It optimizes the fit with a one-piece seal that "rolls" back and forth on the bridge of your nose to minimize nose bridge pressure, irritation and mask leaks. The result is an effective, comfortable seal.

Headgear and overall shape: The Eson 2 intuitive headgear provides extra stretch for performance and comfort, so that mask users can simply stretch the Eson 2 CPAP mask directly over their head to wear and remove the mask without having to make fit readjustments. The Easy Frame has a narrower profile, providing a clearer line of vision while helping to retain seal stability.

With the VisiBlue™ highlight, you get visual cues that help you use the mask more intuitively for assembly and disassembly during your cleaning routine.

Ability to diffuse: The Eson 2 has a unique washable diffuser that controls noise and draft for a quieter and more pleasant sleeping experience for you and your bed partner.

Is the Eson 2 CPAP mask compatible with all machines?

Philips Respironics DreamWear Full Face Mask

Best CPAP masks to look out for in 2019. SleepTalk

Mask Features

Mask seal and cushion: DreamWear Full face mask is the Respironics Dream Family solution for CPAP users who breathe from their mouth. It was uniquely designed based on thousands of 3D renderings of different faces and features to provide proven fit, comfort and seal.

Headgear and overall shape: To help combat the challenges that come with wearing a CPAP mask, Philips designed the new DreamWear Full face mask to feel like there’s nothing on the face. The cushion is designed to sit under the nose, not on it. In recent claims made by Philips Respironics, CPAP users reported preferring this mask over their prescribed one, and having less red marks or irritation.

Like other masks in the family of DreamWear masks, it offers added comfort by removing the mask elbow from the front of your face to the top of your head. This design provides more freedom to sleep comfortably in any position you desire and to move freely through the night while not having to worry about getting tangled with the CPAP hose.

Ability to diffuse: The air draft from the DreamWear Full Face mask diffuses out of air shafts at the front of the full face cushion as well as from the mask elbow sitting on top your head. Although the draft can still be felt, this design is meant to soften the air draft for you and your bed partner.

Is the DreamWear Full Face CPAP mask compatible with all machines?

The Philips Respironics DreamWear full face mask works with all CPAP, APAP and Bi-Level CPAP machines, but is incompatible with the ResMed AirMini Travel CPAP, which has its own set of compatible masks.

ResMed AirFit N30i

AirFit N30i: Best CPAP masks to look out for in 2019

Mask Features

Mask seal and cushion: The AirFit N30i has a nasal cradle cushion which sits under the nose, covering less of the face than a traditional nasal mask. With the clear field of vision, you can comfortably wear glasses to read or watch TV while wearing the mask.

Headgear and overall shape: The mask's tube is placed atop your head for a real comfortable design that allows you to sleep in any way you want: on your back, side, or stomach. To create a comfortable and effective seal, the curvature of the cradle cushion and the SpringFit frame help the mask stay in place under your nose as you move during sleep.

Ability to diffuse: Air flows through the soft, pliable frame to the cradle seal. The mask compensates for reduced air on one side of the frame (ie, laying on your side) so the user will always receive the prescribed therapy pressure. Because the air is diffused at the top of your head, it should be less disruptive for you and your bed partner so you can sleep closer and more freely. With no front-end tube, the mask stays out of sight and out of the way.

Is the AirFit N30i CPAP mask compatible with all machines?

The ResMed AirFit N30i nasal mask works with all CPAP, APAP and Bi-Level CPAP machines, but is incompatible with the ResMed AirMini Travel CPAP, which has its own set of compatible masks.
